Why would I need a lactation consultant?

Frequently Asked Questions

Honestly there is not much you need to do, as we strive to make this appointment as easy on new parents as possible. We will send you an intake form ahead of time which we would like for you to fill out at your earliest convenience. This would include your address, so we know where we are going, as well as a brief history for us to review ahead of time. We will discuss this form at length during your appointment as well.

We kindly ask that if you have any pets, please keep them in a separate room or crate while we are there. Animals can be protective of new infants in unpredictable ways, and can also smell/lick/contaminate our supplies that we take into many tiny infants’ homes.

DO NOT CLEAN!!! DO NOT SHOWER!!!! Postpartum is a vulnerable, difficult transitional time. We are safe, supportive, judgment free professionals who are here for you.

Feed yourself before we arrive, and have plenty of water nearby.

If possible, try to have your baby ready to feed when we arrive. This might mean giving a small feed if they are upset instead of a lengthy one. Do not stress too much about this and certainly don't let them cry/wait. We will figure it out together.

After the consultation we send you a care plan that is a documentation of everything we discussed. Do not worry about having to retain all the information we covered during the consultation, it can be overwhelming.

How do I prepare for an in-home visit?

The sooner the better but it is never too soon or too late! Breastfeeding is a new skill not only for you, but for your baby too. The earlier you can get support the more confident you will become at this foreign skill. If you are pregnant and would like to meet prior to having your infant to see if we are a good fit, please reach out and we can always meet prior to, and set you up for success.
